World Champion and former Olympic figure skater Victor Kraatz is honouring Scandinavia House by holding a talk for the public on Saturday February 27th at 12:00 (noon) about his life as a figure skater, what it is like to be a top athlete, what it takes to compete on the World stage as well as hosting a Q & A. Join us for this opportunity to hear Victor’s story and meet this figure skating legend.

About Victor Kraatz

Victor Kraatz is a Canadian figure skater who, together with his partner Shae-Lynn Bourne, became the first North American team to win a World Championship in Ice Dancing. He has also won numerous Canadian championships in his career as well as many other notable competions and now spends his time as a competitive ice dance figure skating coach together with his Finnish wife Maikki Uotila-Kraatz (Finnish figure skater and Vancouver 2010 Olympic athlete Laura Lepisto trained with Victor this summer) and is the ice dance commentator for CTV for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Swedish-speaking Olympic Guided Tours in Whistler

Jonas Svenson is a Swede living in Vancouver who has been providing tours of Whistler through Discover Canada Tours for the past year. He has generously offered to provide tours in Swedish during the Olympics for groups of 22 or more!

Whistler, co-host of the 2010 Olympic Games, is only 2 hours from Vancouver on the beautiful Sea to Sky Highway. Whistler is consistently ranked as the number one ski resort in North America and features two amazing mountains with epic skiing and snowboarding conditions.

Whistler Games Celebration Tour ($70)

This tour will enable you to experience the celebrations in the village, see the nightly fireworks, and party in the famous clubs. From morning until night, there will be something inspiring and engaging to see at every turn!

Whistler Games Ski/Ride Tour ($70)

90% of Whistler Blackcomb will be open for skiing/riding during the Olympics, yet it is expected that the skier/rider traffic will be down significantly making this the best time to ski and ride at Whistler. Plus on select dates you can check out the Downhill, Super G and Super Combined events from the on-mountain viewing platforms! (refer to the notes below for details on this).

The Centre is Getting A Royal Treat!

Sweden House Society is honoured to announce that as part of their royal visit to Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Games, the King and Queen of Sweden — Carl XVI Gustaf and Silvia Bernadotte — will be coming for a visit to the Scandinavian Community Centre!

On Thursday February 25th, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Silvia will be attending a special Cocktail Reception held in their honour. As part of their visit to the Centre, the Swedish School children will perform and the royal couple will be given a grand tour of the Centre facilities. We are so proud of how we keep the Swedish culture and traditions alive in Vancouver, we hope they will be as well!
