Scandinavian Community Centre

Over 4,500 peo­ple vis­ited Scan­di­navia House, reg­u­larly known as the Scan­di­na­vian Com­mu­nity Cen­tre, took a tour, enjoyed a drink at the Fire­side Lounge, had lunch or din­ner, and watched one of the big screen TV’s. We hosted var­i­ous roy­alty, ambas­sadors and polit­i­cal offi­cials from Den­mark, Fin­land, Nor­way and Sweden.

We are so proud of all our hun­dreds of olun­teers who logged in over 2,000 hours. They took every­thing in stride work­ing with the TV media, wear­ing Nor­we­gian curl­ing pants, press reporters from around the world, par­ty­ing Vikings with horned hel­mets and var­i­ous dig­ni­taries, all with wel­com­ing smiles, and cheer­ful information.

World Cham­pion and for­mer Olympic fig­ure skater Vic­tor Kraatz is hon­our­ing Scan­di­navia House by hold­ing a talk for the pub­lic on Sat­ur­day Feb­ru­ary 27th at 12:00 (noon) about his life as a fig­ure skater, what it is like to be a top ath­lete, what it takes to com­pete on the World stage as well as host­ing a Q & A. Join us for this oppor­tu­nity to hear Victor’s story and meet this fig­ure skat­ing legend.

About Vic­tor Kraatz

Vic­tor Kraatz is a Cana­dian fig­ure skater who, together with his part­ner Shae-Lynn Bourne, became the first North Amer­i­can team to win a World Cham­pi­onship in Ice Danc­ing. He has also won numer­ous Cana­dian cham­pi­onships in his career as well as many other notable com­petions and now spends his time as a com­pet­i­tive ice dance fig­ure skat­ing coach together with his Finnish wife Maikki Uotila-Kraatz (Finnish fig­ure skater and Van­cou­ver 2010 Olympic ath­lete Laura Lep­isto trained with Vic­tor this sum­mer) and is the ice dance com­men­ta­tor for CTV for the Van­cou­ver 2010 Olympic Win­ter Games.

Jonas Sven­son is a Swede liv­ing in Van­cou­ver who has been pro­vid­ing tours of Whistler through Dis­cover Canada Tours for the past year. He has gen­er­ously offered to pro­vide tours in Swedish dur­ing the Olympics for groups of 22 or more!

Whistler, co-host of the 2010 Olympic Games, is only 2 hours from Van­cou­ver on the beau­ti­ful Sea to Sky High­way. Whistler is con­sis­tently ranked as the num­ber one ski resort in North Amer­ica and fea­tures two amaz­ing moun­tains with epic ski­ing and snow­board­ing conditions.

Whistler Games Cel­e­bra­tion Tour ($70)

This tour will enable you to expe­ri­ence the cel­e­bra­tions in the vil­lage, see the nightly fire­works, and party in the famous clubs. From morn­ing until night, there will be some­thing inspir­ing and engag­ing to see at every turn!

90% of Whistler Black­comb will be open for skiing/riding dur­ing the Olympics, yet it is expected that the skier/rider traf­fic will be down sig­nif­i­cantly mak­ing this the best time to ski and ride at Whistler. Plus on select dates you can check out the Down­hill, Super G and Super Com­bined events from the on-mountain view­ing plat­forms! (refer to the notes below for details on this).

You must book and order your open-faced sand­wiches by the Tues­day of same week. This pop­u­lar event books up quickly so call early! Ask Ebba to add you to her email list to notify you of the sand­wich selec­tions the week before. Remem­ber no KroAften in December.
