SwedenThe Swedish Cul­tural Soci­ety is a mem­ber orga­ni­za­tion of the Swe­den House Soci­ety with the goal of keep­ing Swedish cul­tural expe­ri­ences alive in the Lower Mainland.

  • Pre­serves the tra­di­tional cul­tures of Sweden’s art, music and dance
  • Pro­motes the under­stand­ing of Swedish com­mu­ni­ties and cul­tures in Canada
  • Pre­serves the Swedish lan­guage among Cana­di­ans of Swedish descent
  • Gives lec­tures by cul­tur­ally linked peo­ple, out­stand­ing in their fields

  • Val­borg cel­e­brated at the end of April with a gigan­tic bon­fire and songs
  • The Swedish School which takes care of the young mem­bers of the SHS. Chil­dren rang­ing from age 3 to 13 meet once a week at the Scan­di­na­vian Cen­tre for lessons in Swedish con­ducted by Swedish-trained teach­ers. The chil­dren also cel­e­brate all the Swedish tra­di­tions and learn more about their her­itage as part of the school program.
