Norwegian Language Classes
Norwegian language instruction is offered by Norwegian House Society. All the current classes will be held at the Scandinavian Community Centre, 6540 Thomas Street, Burnaby, near Kensington Avenue and Sprott Street. Beginner I: Wednesday: 7 to 9 pm from January 11, 2017 (text Troll I Ord lessons 1-5)
Beginner II: Thursday 7 to 9 pm; from January 12, 2017 (text Troll I Ord 6-10+); instructor Mette
Intermediate: Wednesday 7 to 9 pm; January 11 , 2017 (Troll I Ord 11-@20); instructor Anne Maia
Advanced: Tuesday 7 to 9 pm; from January 10, 2017 (reference text Troll I Ord); instructor Mette
Private instruction might be arranged through one of our instructors.
Fees: Each 10 course session costs $125. Pay electronically or by cheque at the first class.
Curricula: Courses in general follow the text (Troll I Ord, downloadable) in Beginner and Intermediate courses. It is used as a reference in the Advanced course. Instructors enrich classes with vocabulary and speaking practice adjusted to suit students’ needs. Beginner courses emphasize speaking and reading. Written language is added in Intermediate and Advanced courses.
Instructors: Our teachers are qualified and exciting native Norwegian speakers using the Oslo dialect. They bring much useful cultural information to each class.
Children’s classes – Learning Norwegian is FUN!
Barneskolen FREE for small children, 10 Saturdays, 12:30 to 2 pm starting January 14, 2017. Children enjoy books, toys, simple games, and songs in Norwegian. Parents must accompany children and share leadership and supervision.
Barneskolen for ages 4 or 5 to 12, 10 Saturdays, 12:30 to 2 starting January 14, 2917. Children talk, sing, dance, do Scandinavian crafts and cooking, and play games, all in Norwegian. Students may perform at Norwegian House Society events. Students may be grouped by age depending on skill and on availability of additional instructors.
Fees: $125 for a first child; additional siblings $75. Pay at the first class.
Email your name, address, phone number, course wanted, and a comment about your Norwegian language skill level. With your child’s registration, include age and special requirements such as food allergies. Expect a return confirmation. Register early as courses with insufficient enrolment may be cancelled. Students are welcome to register late; the instructors arrange much review at every class. Fees are prorated for late registrations. Our instructors will help you find the best course for you. You may also visit more than one course to help you decide.

Our Norwegian Conversation Coffee Club meets on Sundays at 2 pm starting in mid January. Stop by to share coffee, treats and topics.
