Photographing Formula 1 and other stories from the career and life of Allan de la Plante

An award winning and highly acclaimed photographer, author, publisher, keynote speaker and artist!

Allan has won many accolades for his photography of people of action. He began shooting hard core sports in the early Seventies, following the F1 Grand Prix circuit and the Canadian downhill ski racers known around the world as the Crazy Canucks. In 1974, he covered the Russia-Canada hockey series for the National Sport and Recreation Center. Between 1974 and 1976, commissioned by the Bank of Montreal, he created the first Canadian Gallery of Athletes. In 1976 he was the Official Photographer at the Montreal Olympic Games.

In 1997, Canada Post unveiled two stamps on Gilles Villeneuve, based on de la Plante’s photographs. It was the ultimate recognition of de la Plante’s work and Villeneuve’s racing life.

He has published books on topics ranging from Pope John Paul II to firefighters to Gas B-B-Que cooking. Perhaps his crown jewel though is the masterfully written, brutally honest book about his good friend from rural Quebec who set the world on fire behind the wheel of a Ferrari.

HOW TO ACHIEVE BETTER MARKETING RESULTS WITHOUT SPENDING MORE
presented by:  RNOLD SMITH

(Red Robinson A Retrospective from a Pioneer Rock’n Roll DJ Cancelled)

A big challenge for small business owners, self-employed professionals, and even an employee looking for a raise, is answering the question, “Why you?”. I have asked hundreds of people this question and the vast majority don’t provide any useful information that tells me why I should buy from them specifically. In fact, most people say some form of the exact same thing! So then, how do you choose between two experienced Realtors, Plumbers or Graphic Artists etc.?

Your answer should be specific and concrete and be tied to what your ideal customers care about the most. In this talk I explain how to differentiate yourself so that you become more persuasive and get more customers without spending more money.

Rnold is a New Westminster based business growth consultant. He helps his clients acquire new ideal customers in the fastest, easiest and cheapest way possible based on their current circumstances. People work with Rnold because he is fun, has decades of business development experience and his strategies are easy to implement and based in reality.

He is executive director for the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce, the founder of the Business Collaboration Network, and President of the McBride Sapperton Residents Association.

EUROPEAN REFUGEE CRISIS

Date: Wednesday, September 13, 2017 – 6 pm to 9 pm

Azza Robji is a peace and social justice activist in Vancouver. She immigrated to Canada from Tunisia in 2011 and has since been involved in the immigrant and refugee community in Vancouver. She is a writer and researcher on the issue of immigration and refugees in Canada as well as on the current refugee crisis in Europe. Azza will be providing a balanced and facts-based presentation that will inform and enlighten us on this important issue. Also, we will be presenting our Annual Scholarship Award to this year’s recipient at this event.

The European migrant crisis, or the European refugee crisis, is a term given to a period beginning in 2015 when rising numbers of people arrived in the European Union (EU), travelling across the Mediterranean Sea or overland through Southeast Europe. These people included asylum seekers, but also others, such as economic migrants and some hostile agents, including Islamic State militants disguised as refugees or migrants.
