NORDIC CULTURAL WEEKEND – poster and forms

Place: Scandinavian Community Centre
Cost: Adults: $15 per ½ day or one day class; $25 for two day class; Icelandic Craft Class $10, Icelandic Knitting demo no charge, but please register.

Expand your horizons and learn a craft or a new recipe

April 2 (Sunday) 9am. Nordic Woodcarving Learn decorative Nordic woodcarving. Beginners welcome or bring your unfinished project with you. Minimum age 13 years. Taught by Anita Jacobsen

April 8th & 9 (Saturday & Sunday) 10 a.m. Two-day painting workshop: Norwegian Rosemaling & Swedish Kubits Folk painting Beginners learn the basic strokes. More experienced painters start a new project or bring your unfinished work with you. Bring your own wooden item. Paint, brushes and patterns provided.  Taught by Aaslaug Boulier.

April 8 (Sat) 9 a.m. Norwegian Cooking: learn to make Potato Balls (Potet Klubb /Raspeball) and Norwegian Lace cookies. Taught by Susan Strang

April 8th (Sat) 12:30 noon One hour Icelandic Knitting method demonstration

April 8th (Sat) 1:30 p.m. Finnish Cooking make Finnish salmon soup & side bread with Riitta Huttunen

April 8th (Sat) 2 p.m. Icelandic craft session – Learn to make Laufabraud (Leaf Bread) ornaments; Rock people in Icelandic sweaters & Birch discs with Icelandic symbols

April 9 (Sat) 11:30 a.m. One hour Icelandic knitting method demonstration

April 9 (Sun) 1 p.m. Open-face Sandwich Design Learn hands-on the art of Scandinavian open-faced sandwich design. Make sandwiches almost too beautiful to eat!  Taught by Tina Taylor

April 9 (Sunday) 1 p.m. Swedish Baking Vetebröd (aka Hvetebrød, Hvedebrød, Pulla bread). Make this sweet cardamom coffee bread with various shapes and fillings. Taught by Sandra Benholm

April 9 (Sun) 2 p.m. Icelandic Craft Session: Learn to make Laufabraud ornaments

 

Fees: Adults: $15 or half-day or one-day classes; $25 for 2-day workshop; Icelandic knitting demo N/C but please register; Icelandic Craft class: $10
